Designer Q&A – We Are Handsome

What’s the inspiration behind your spring/summer collection?

There’s definitely a presence of our USA trip late last year when we visited Miami and New York. We were totally captivated by each place and their stark differences – the city and the beach, which is present in all of our collections. Both collections that we will be showing in our first MBFWA show are, of course, visually captivating and alluring, with a magnetic confidence behind each piece.

What sort of prints and textures are featured in your upcoming range?

There’s so many! There are really strong bright prints and dreamy scenes where you just wish you were there or feel as though you have been there. The prints transport you. There is also a strong animalistic presence in a lot of our styles. We’ve also continued with some pattern prints, abstract images and florals after we had such a great response to them last season.

In your opinion, what are some of the big trends we can expect to see on the catwalk at MBFWA?

We think there will be more digital prints than we’ve seen in recent seasons as nearly every ready-to-wear collection now has incorporated a digital print of some kind, and colour of course for our bright Australian summer! Aussie designers always know how to stand out.

What’s your favourite fashion week memory?

This is our first fashion week experience in Australia, and we plan to make many over the coming weeks!

What are you most looking forward to at fashion week this year?

Presenting our very first show in our hometown Sydney. This is something we’ve been working towards since we started the brand and we’re really excited to finally officially launch We Are Handsome locally. We’re so glad to be able to see the reaction to our work in person – that’s always a real thrill!

What will you be doing after fashion week wraps?
Enjoying the hype and buzz that comes with a successful Fashion Week Show. We’ll have a few minutes off – but we’re also moving offices and getting straight back into our next season deliveries and designs for next year!
