Thanks to the loveable design duo Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales, their unquashable enthusiasm and sheer love for what they make and do, Romance Was Born collections are epic, irreverent and fun loving fabric and colour combinations. Their lavish aesthetic often includes a pastiche of craft work like appliqué, tie-dying or crochet, these are the fabulous hand detailed features that set their label apart from the rest.
The drama and individuality behind the design work of Romance Was Born has seen them able to attract and dress the music industry’s finest show ponies. Anna and Luke approached Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs to dress her in a “one off” creation for her 2003 Australian tour, and since then everyone wanted a piece, including Cyndi Lauper, Debbie Harry (during her tour with Blondie), Lilly Allen, MIA, The Veronicas, and Architecture in Helsinki.
Romance Was Born’s insistence on supporting the dwindling Australian manufacturing industry adds (yet) another layer of integrity to their already rad-ass label.
